Erin was born and raised on Vancouver Island in Canada. She obtained her BSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Victoria (Canada) working with Prof. Scott McIndoe on synthesizing electrospray active distannoxane catalysts for the production of biodiesel in her final year. She received her PhD degree from the University of Calgary (Canada) in 2011 under the tutelage of Prof. Warren Piers investigating the decomposition of ruthenium phosphonium alkylidene olefin metathesis catalysts.  Following her graduate studies, she was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Prof. Ian Manners at the University of Bristol (U.K.).  Erin joined the University of Auckland as faculty member in Dec. 2015.
